My windows are finally open and the leaves are just starting their turn. The air smells so clean since we have had rain for the past several days. As much as I want to fight the exit of summer, I have to admit that I am getting a little excited for what our family refers to as "Football Weather"!
This time of year brings out the fall decorations, pumpkins, scarecrows, and whatnot. The crockpot makes its appearance for chili, stew, and chicken and dumplings. Tailgating before the local football games. Gathering in the homes of dear friends for food, fellowship, and football!!!The smell of clove and spice candles are filling the air, which is a prelude to the holidays that are almost at my front door. A feeling of peace surrounds me.
Every year, I say to myself:" I will not drag every ounce of holiday decor that I own out into my home!!! I will keep it simple this year!!" Yeah, right! Every year, I seem to come up with more and more ideas and it has become so out of control! Then again, it is so much fun and gives me joy in the middle cold dreary days. I think of my Jesus every day but I know that at least during the holidays, more of the world that usually does not include Christ in their daily lives, is thinking about him too.
In the midst of political turmoil, there is a peace in looking around and counting my blessings and knowing that my God is bigger than any problem that can be presented to me on this earth. Here's to wishing each of you the blessing of the chill from an early fall.....
